A virtual airline outgrew the legacy software holding its roster, its schedule and its flight records together.
Virtual airlines run on more moving parts than people expect: a published schedule, a roster of pilots with seniority and hours, an ACARS feed logging every flight as it happens, and a records system that has to agree with all three. TopSky's community had spent its first two operational years on PHPvms7, and the schedule had outgrown what a legacy system could carry.
We built the platform layer that replaced it. Pilots get an electronic flight bag — their flights, their hours, a map of where they have flown and a country heatmap built from their own logbook. Operations get the other half: a schedule, a roster, and an approval queue where a pilot binding their account to an external flight-tracking identity is checked by a human before the records are trusted.
The flight data itself comes from NewSky. That integration is the part that has to be right: a flight record that silently disagrees with the tracking feed is worse than no record, because seniority and hours are calculated from it.
TopSky runs in production today, with the community's operations, records and pilot administration on one platform instead of three.
TopSky is designed, built, and backed by Zatto. We wrote it, we run it, and when the flight feed disagrees with the records at midnight it is our problem, not a supplier's. That is the experience we sell to everyone else.
